Lobpon Jigme Palden took refuge as a Kagyu monk at age fifteen. He was an honored student of the highly respected Urgyen Tulku Rinpoche a master of the Barum Kagyu lineage and the teacher of many respected lamas in the Kagyu tradition. He received lineage teachings from Urgyen Tulku while residing at his monastery Ka Nying Shedup Ling in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 1987, Lobpon Jigme Palden entered the monk community at Rumtek Institute, where he further enriched his knowledge and practice of dharma at the seat of H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa. Later he enrolled at Sera Je University in south India where he concluded his studies in Buddhist Logic and Epistemology. Rinpoche subsequently requested Loppon Jigme Palden to teach at his centers in the United States.
