H. E. Jamgong Mipham Rinpoche
The history of the incarnations of the great Nyingma scholar, terton, great practitioner and adept, Jamgong Mipham Rinpoche is surprisingly small considering the wealth of sutra and tantra commentaries that he wrote during his first incarnation.

It is often stated that Mipham Rinpoche was one of the greatest figures of the Rimé movement because of the vastness of his scholarly works.

He composed more than 300 treatises and commentaries and was also the spiritual leader of the Jumo Hor monastery in Eastern Tibet.

The first Mipham Rinpoche spent many years in strict retreat displaying many signs of high realization. Because of his extensive knowledge and great accomplishment he is considered one of the most extraordinary masters of his time.

The second Ju Mipham Rinpoche was born in 1916 as the son of a king of Derge and was recognized by Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö as the reincarnation of the former Mipham Rinpoche.
Unfortunately, due to chronic health problems he passed away at the age of 27.

The third Ju Mipham Rinpoche is considered one of today's greatest scholars and masters of the Nyingma tradition and father of H.H. The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje.

He was born in Tibet in 1949 and was recognized by Tengye Rinpoche of Lab, a highly realized master, as the reincarnation of Mipham Rinpoche.

In 1959, when Mipham Rinpoche was ten years old, the official dharma practice became impossible in Tibet because of the political changes. However, due to a grave illness, Mipham Rinpoche was permitted to remain in his monastery, Junyung Gompa. There he concentrated on his Buddhist education in philosophy and meditation. He spent 13 years in retreat and practiced during this time, among many other practices, a total of 2000 Nyungne-fasting rituals on the 1000-armed Chenresig.

In 1994 Rinpoche suffered a serious stroke and eventually left Tibet together with his wife Mayum-la in 1994 to receive further medical treatment.

Today Mipham Rinpoche lives together with his wife in Spain, Malaga at Karma Guen Center. In spite of his serious physical condition he nevertheless travels every year to many centers in Europe inspiring with his presence all those who have the good luck to meet him.
