Lama Choepel was born and grew up in Austria and went on to study drama and economics there. Since 1994 Chöpel has been living in Kundröl Ling, France, as a student of the Mahamudra master Lama Gendun Rinpoche. Chöpel then went on to complete two 3-year meditation retreats under the spiritual authority of Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche.

Today his activity includes translating classical Tibetan texts and teaching dharma throughout Europe and the United States. He is also currently preparing a meditation program for managers in collaboration with the University of Business and Economics in Vienna, Austria.
