Curriculum for Buddhist Practice
Compiled by H. H. Shamar Rinpoche
This curriculum of study and practice should be undertaken under the guidance of a qualified teacher. Note that some practices are not available to the general public, as they require prerequisite training and experience. The curriculum will be taught in all Bodhi Path centers.
Study
General subjects of Study for the Bodhi Path Centers:
- Learn how to take refuge and follow the precepts of refuge as explained in the Jewel Ornament of Liberation.
- Study the commentary on the Remembrance of the Three Jewels.
- Learn how to take the Bodhisattva vows and follow the precepts of the Bodhisattva vows as explained in the Jewel Ornament of Liberation.
- Study the Commentary of the Wishing Prayer of the Arya Samantabhadra.
- Study Distinguishing the Center from the Limits.
- Study The Meditation Instruction on the View of Madhyamika.
- Study Vimalamitra’s Progressive Integration of the Meaning of Meditation.
The three subjects of study related to the Bodhisattvayana Tantric Way for the Bodhi Path centers:
- Empowerment and the Path of Liberation, by Tsele Natsok Rangdrol

- The Meaning of the Development Phase, by Getse Pandita
- The Samayas of the Tantric Vow, by Phagdru
Practice
You should follow each practice with the Wishing Prayer of the Arya Samantabhadra.
Foundation Practices for all Bodhi Path Practitioners:
- Refuge vow
- Bodhisattva vow
- Shamatha (shi'nay) meditation
- 35 Buddhas practice
- 7 Points of Mind-Training
- Vajrasattva (Dorje Sempa) practice
Main Practices to be specially chosen for each individual with the help of the root master:
- Practice of Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig)
- Practice of Buddha Amitabha
Requires lineage transmission for initiation.
- Karma Kagyu Mahamudra practice

- Kagyu Mahamudra, The Stages of Practice in relation to the Blessing received from the Short Supplication to Vajradhara and the Lineage Holders.
