Announcing a Weekend of Dharma with Khenpo Tsering
July 11 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville and
July 12 - 13 at the Bodhi Path Potomac MD Center

Lobpon (Teacher) Tsering
Khenpo Tsering, Headmaster of Shri Diwakar Vihara Buddhist Institute in Kalimpong, West Bengal India, will be visiting with us the weekend of July 11 through 13 to teach selected topics from the Jewel Ornament of Liberation, a classic Tibetan text on Buddhism. It includes teachings on Buddha-nature, finding a spiritual master, impermanence, karma, the cultivation of compassion and the value of altruistic living.

Friday evening July 11, 2008: 7:30 - 8:30pm Public Talk
At the the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville,
100 Welsh Park Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850

Buddhism is very much in alignment with the Unitarian Universalist aspiration, "May we have eyes that see, hearts that love, and hands that are willing to serve". Buddhists believe that we all have Buddha-nature, can develop compassion for all suffering beings, and express our true nature through the practice of generosity, patience and joyful effort.

Khenpo Tsering will address these topics from a Buddhist perspective, as inspired by Gampopa, a physician from Dagpo who founded one of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism more than eight centuries ago.  (No charge, but donations are welcome)

Saturday & Sunday July 12-13, 2008: 10am-12 noon & 2-4 pm
At the Potomac BodhiPath Center
12540 Falls Road, Potomac, Maryland 20854

Khenpo Tsering will teach selected topics from the Jewel Ornament of Liberation, a classic "Pith Instruction" from Gampopa (1079-1153), the founder of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

For more than eight centuries, Gampopa's instruction has provided a complete foundation for Buddhist Study and practice. It covers the initial entry into the path and continues through to the achievement of Buddhahood.

It includes guidance on Buddha-nature, finding a spiritual master, impermanence, karma, the cultivation of bodhichitta, the development of the six perfections, the ten Bodhisattva bhumis, Buddhahood, and the activities of a buddha.

The suggested donation is $50 a day or $100 for the weekend. A separate offering for Kempo Tsering is encouraged.
